Roy “Butch” James Snavely, Jr.
Family’s Super Hero -
Roy “Butch” James Snavely, Jr., age 53, of Manchester, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully at home and surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, January 7, 2021, after a long battle with cancer. Roy was born on Saturday, April 15, 1967, in Harrisburg, PA to the late Roy James Snavely, Sr. and Harriet Florence (Watkins) Snavely.
Roy’s survivors include his loving wife of 32 years, Tina Marie (Wardle) Snavely; his two children: Tylor James Snavely of Shippensburg, PA, Jamie Marie Sweeney and husband Dennis of Red Lion, PA; his six grandchildren: Elliott, Hannah, Dylan, Hayden, Madison, Garrett; and his three sisters: Margarette Bruner and husband Charles, Linda Large and husband Jay, and Judy Oberman and husband Todd.
Roy graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1986. His proud service in the U.S. Army included a deployment to Afghanistan. After driving trucks for years, Roy served as a surplus munitions handler at Letterkenny Army Depot for the remainder of his civilian career. A man of strong faith, Roy attended Grace Brethren Church in Perry County and other churches with his family. Roy enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting with his family at Letterkenny. Family was Roy’s top priority, and he refused to allow cancer to keep him from spending time with them. Roy put everyone before himself, and as a true protector, he never let anyone know how badly cancer was making him feel. He quietly pushed through his pain to help his children do things like build a deck. Roy’s strong will and fighting spirit all the way to the end impressed even his caretakers. His children know Roy raised them well, and to say he was the family’s rock is true, but more than that, Roy was their super hero.
Roy’s family will be celebrating his life privately. Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA will be at the family’s convenience. Cremation was private.
The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to everyone at Andrews Patel Hematology/Oncology who so lovingly cared for Roy during his illness.
Roy’s family has entrusted his care to Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.
