Rozella May (Souder) McLane, 92, a life-long resident of Mechanicsburg died Friday, August 5, 2011 at Messiah Village. She was born on Saturday, March 22, 1919 in Mechanicsburg the daughter of the late Arthur Cleveland and Ruth (Hamsher) Souder and she was the widow of Harold Benson McLane who died on Thursday, May 9, 1985 and to whom she was happily married for over 20 years.

Rozella graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1937 before attending Nursing School in Carlisle. Rozella was the first Practical Nurse to work in the Operating Room at Carlisle Hospital as Dr. Armstrong’s Surgical Nurse. She was a very active and loyal life-long member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg where she did almost every job possible. In 1953 she joined the Cumberland County Daughters of the American Revolution and was an active member of the American Business Women of America.

Rozella loved to travel having visited Europe by ship in 1950, reaching California during a cross-country trip later in the 1950s, touring Canada on the Canadian Railroad and exploring much of the United States during her life. She and Harold enjoyed the fall foliage in the Poconos, one of her favorite places, every October. They took many opportunities to attend musicals, another of their favorite pleasures.

Rozella is survived by two loving sister-in-laws: Patricia Souder and Dot Souder both of Mechanicsburg and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Rozella is preceded in death by two brothers: Paul R. Souder and Glenn L. Souder and a sister: Dorothy I. Yorlets.

All are welcome to join Rozella’s family at her viewing on Saturday, August 13, 2011 from 9:00 until time of Funeral Service at 10:30 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 132 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055 with Pastor Joel Folkemer officiating. Burial will be in Mechanicsburg Cemetery with a Time of Food and Fellowship immediately following, at the church.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Rozella’s church, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
