Russell “Russ” Eugene Swinn
A Quiet and Peaceful Man -
Russell “Russ” Eugene Swinn, age 73, of Camp Hill, and formerly of Carlisle, died at Holy Spirit Hospital on Friday, October 7, 2016. Russ was born on Saturday, October 17, 1942 in Marysville to the late John Joseph Swinn and Margaret Ema (Lehman) Swinn. In addition to his parents, Russ is preceded in death by his two brothers: Mervin J. Swinn, Harold C. Swinn; his four sisters: Beatrice E. Flow, Grace P. Richwine, Louella M. Duncan, Ruth E. Smith; and an infant.
Russ’s survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary Ellen (Wolfe) Swinn; his four sons: John “Johnny” A. Swinn of Mechanicsburg, Ronald “Ron” E. Swinn, Sr. and his fiancé, Paula George, of Mechanicsburg, Russell L. Swinn and his wife, Kimberly, of Carlisle, Donald “Donny” L. Swinn of Carlisle; his two grandsons: Ronald E. Swinn, Jr. of Mount Holly, Samuel L. Swinn of New Cumberland; his three sisters: Martha E. Frey, Alma E. Smiley, Shirley M. Shellehamer; and several nieces and nephews.
Russ attended Susquenita High School in Duncannon. He retired from Hempt Bros., Inc. in Camp Hill, after many years of service working as a truck driver. Russ also worked for Pennsy Supply, Inc. driving a cement mixing truck. He grew up on a farm in Perry County where Russ enjoyed tinkering on tractors and working with the kids. Russ liked spending most of his time at home where he would read the paper, watch western movies, and listen to old country music. Most importantly, he loved eating McDonald’s fish sandwiches with lots of ketchup. His family will remember his quiet and peaceful demeanor; he will be missed dearly.
All are welcome to join Russ’s family at his viewing on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, from 1:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant Elizabeth M. Dolan officiating. Burial will follow in Westminster Cemetery in Carlisle. Honored to be pallbearers are: Johnny Swinn, Ron Swinn, Sr., Russell Swinn, Donny Swinn, Ronald Swinn, Jr. and Samuel Swinn.
