Russell “Russ” “Cookie” David Cook, age 56, of Mechanicsburg , died at home on Friday, April 18, 2014. Born in Allentown, PA, on Friday, June 28, 1957, he was the son of Robert Ingersol Cook and the late Audrey Ann (Remaley) Cook.
Russ’s survivors include his loving sister, Ann Frances Wilson and her husband Timothy of New Cumberland; his two brothers, Andrew Cook of Maryland, Robert Cook and his wife Vanessa of Weston, PA; his close friend, Keith “Peanut” Parks and his companion Nancy Stout of Mechanicsburg; and two nieces and a nephew.
Russ graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1975. He worked as an auto body technician for almost all of the local automotive body shops in Mechanicsburg. You may have met Russ as he rode his bike almost everywhere. Sprint car racing was one of Russ’s greatest joys, especially at Williams Grove Speedway as part of the “ Beer Hill Gang ”. He loved cheering on Greg Hodnett , his favorite driver. The time he spent bass fishing, using his ultra light in the Conodoguinet Creek with his friend, “Peanut”, was precious to Russ. They loved playing horseshoes almost three times per week, and Russ loved beating “Peanut”, which happened occasionally. He was an avid vegetable gardener; tomatoes were his favorite. For over 30 years, Russ served as the sound technician for the band, Silver City . Russ had many friends who will miss him terribly.
