Ruth (Leinaweaver) Brechbiel, age 97, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2020. Ruth was born on Monday, September 18, 1922, in Newport to the late Emmett Orris Leinaweaver and Elnora (Hultzapple) Leinaweaver. Ruth was the widow of Charles “Charlie” Rollo Brechbiel, whom she married in June of 1942, and who died on December 21, 1981. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth is preceded in death by her son, Vernon Brechbiel; her infant grandson, Erich Brechbiel; her son-in-law, Eric Robert Kauffman; and her three siblings: John Leinaweaver, Lloyd Leinaweaver and Lucille Allander.
Ruth’s survivors include her four children: Lois Kauffman of Walkersville, MD, Lynn Brechbiel of Mechanicsburg, Vera Brechbiel of Mechanicsburg, Paul Brechbiel of Dillsburg; her five grandchildren: Kirk Brechbiel and wife Renee Lieux and daughter Ella Marie of PA, Heather Satterfield and husband Peter and children: Rhys, Aynsley, and Pyran of MD, Scott Brechbiel and wife Jillian and children: Chase, Jackson, and Naomi of PA, Amber King and husband Michael and children: Claire and Caroline of PA, Bryce Kauffman of CO; her sister, Shirley Shughart and husband Joseph of Carlisle; her sister-in-law, Jean Bickhart and husband Larry of Ephrata; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Brechbiel; and several nieces and nephews.
Ruth graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1942. She retired from the Book of the Month Club in Mechanicsburg, after a few years of service working as a clerk. Ruth was a lifelong member of Silver Spring Presbyterian Church since 1939, where she was a member of the Women’s Circle and volunteered with the Annual Fall Faire. In her younger years, Ruth enjoyed playing volleyball and was a part of a bowling league with her husband at ABC West Lanes. More recently, she liked to stay fit by participating in water aerobics. Ruth also loved to read, sew, knit, and crochet. The most important aspect of her life was by far spending time with her family, especially all the grandchildren.
All are welcome to join Ruth’s family at her viewing; or via video chat or telephone, on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Family and friends are invited to Ruth’s church service on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at 12:45 p.m.; or via video chat or telephone, at Silver Spring Presbyterian Church, 444 Silver Spring Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050; with Reverend Jane K. Anabe officiating. Honored to be pallbearers are Kirk Brechbiel, Paul Brechbiel, Scott Brechbiel, Amber King, Mike King, and Heather Satterfield. Interment will follow on Monday, August 3, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Silver Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery; with Reverend Donald B. Wahlig officiating. Cremation was private.
