Ruth Irene (Dunkleberger) Cornman
Ruth Irene (Dunkleberger) Cornman, 90, of Carlisle , and formerly of Mechanicsburg , died peacefully at the Church of God Home in Carlisle on Monday, June 10, 2013. She was born in New Kingstown, PA, on Tuesday, November 28, 1922, daughter of the late Loring S. Dunkleberger and Margaret C. (Yohn) Dunkleberger. Ruth was the widow of Lee Earnest Cornman whom she married on November 18, 1945 and who died in September of 1998.
Ruth’s survivors include her two daughters, Linda Susan Shaffer and her husband Raymond of New Bloomfield, PA, Holly Lee Nitchman and her husband Mark of Mechanicsburg; her three granddaughters, Alisa Elicker and her children Krista and Karla all of Dillsburg, Danylle Minsker of Harrisburg, and Shelby Nitchman of Mechanicsburg.
Ruth graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1940. She was a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church in New Kingstown, PA. Ruth enjoyed volunteering for the Girl Scouts when her oldest daughter was a scout. She was a proud member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution , the National Society of the Daughter of the American Colonists , the Jean Ribault Chapter of the Huguenot Society of Central Pennsylvania, and the Railroad Retiree Club of Pennsylvania.
Ruth’s services are private with Reverend Eric L. Funk officiating. Burial will be in Longsdorf Cemetery in Mechanicsburg, PA.
