Ruth Elizabeth (Knisely) Reed

Ruth Elizabeth (Knisely) Reed, age 92, of Mechanicsburg passed away on October 1, 2016 in Speedway, IN from peritoneal cancer.  Ruth was born on January 15, 1924 in Camp Hill to the late Paul O. and Catherine G. (Wynn) Knisely.  She married Lester E. Reed on August 23, 1944 in Hagerstown, MD.  In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her infant sister, Dorothy.

Ruth’s survivors include Les, her husband of 72 years; her son, Terry E. Reed and his wife, Dianne, of Speedway, IN; her three grandchildren: Matthew and his wife, Elisabeth, of Bloomington, IL, Samantha Mummert of Speeedway, IN, Alycia Goss and her husband, Arron, of Speedway, IN; her five great-grandchildren: Evan William Reed, Dylan Mathew Reed, Isaac Reed Mummert, Ainsley Grace Mummert, Madelyn Ruth Goss; her two sisters: Grace W. Lysell of Wellington, OH, and Ethel V. Humer of Mechanicsburg.

Ruth graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1941 and lived in the Mechanicsburg area for nearly all of her life.  She was an executive secretary for many years with American Equipment Corporation and after that business was sold, executive secretary for J.L. Howard Sanitization.  In retirement she volunteered more than 25 years at Seidle Memorial Hospital in Mechanicsburg.   Ruth was a long time member of First United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg where she sang in the choir and was a trustee at various times.

All are welcome to join Ruth’s family at her visitation on Friday, October 14, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 and on Saturday, October 15, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 135 West Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Dr. David L. Reed officiating.  Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
