Ruth Irene (Kruger) Signor

Ruth Irene (Kruger) Signor, age 92, of Newville, and formerly of Waynesboro, passed away at Green Ridge Village in Newville with her loving family by her side on Saturday, September 9, 2023.  Ruth was born on Wednesday, August 19, 1931, in Harrisburg to the late Alfred Urban Kruger and Mary Emma (Slentz) Kruger.  Ruth was the widow of William “Bill” Gordon Signor, whom she married on September 19, 1956, and who died on March 14, 2019.  In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth is preceded in death by her son: Michael Hankey, on March 22, 2023; and her sister:  Danylu Hoover.  

Ruth’s survivors include her grandson: Carl William Hankey; her sister: Alice Funston and her husband, Craig, of Newville; and her niece: Diane Funston and her husband, Richard, of Elizabethtown; and several other nieces and nephews.  

Ruth graduated from John Harris High School in Harrisburg.  She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and The Order of Eastern Star Chapter #227 in Hope Mills, NC.  Ruth had a keen mind, and loved completing crosswords, word searches, and playing dominos. She became interested in ceramics after learning about the craft from her mother.  Ruth worked for her neighbors in their ceramics shop while living in Fayetteville, PA, and then worked in several shops in Fayetteville, NC after moving there with her husband in 1970.  She was a sports fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR, Penn State football, North Carolina basketball. She and Bill attended many PGA Golf tournaments at Pinehurst. Ruth and Bill were travelers, going on cruises around the United States to explore and relax. She will be greatly missed by those that loved her.  

Ruth’s family will be remembering her life privately.  Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery will be at the family’s convenience.  Cremation was private.
