Samuel “Sam” Bruce Banks, age 78, of Mechanicsburg, passed away while being comforted by his family on Thursday, April 14, 2016. Sam was born on Tuesday, June 15, 1937, in Mt. Union, PA to the late Carl Arthur Banks and Lola Caroline (Bollinger) Banks. Sam was the widower of Nancy (Henry) Banks, who died on December 1, 1982. In addition to his parents and wife, Sam is preceded in death by his son, Samuel Banks, Jr., his brother, Leroy Banks, and his companion, Anna Heck.
Sam’s survivors include his two loving daughters: Kathy Howard and her husband, Dennis, of York Haven, Susan Smith and her husband, Chris, of Carlisle; his four grandchildren: Lee Howard, Justin Howard, Kaitlin Deimler, Dillon Deimler; his three siblings: Bill Banks, Shirley Brandt, Thomas Banks and his wife, Mary Ellen; his companion, Martha Marlow; and several nieces and nephews.
Sam was a long-time employee of Hempt Bros., Inc. where he worked in numerous areas of the business over the years. Sam’s favorite thing in the whole world was to purchase and restore old cars. He had an amazing talent and shared his passion with his family. An adventurous and fun-loving guy, the families’ memories of Sam are filled with images of him ice skating on the creek (and falling into the water), corn roasts, metal saucer sledding, camping, and playing with all of his beloved toys: four wheelers, motorcycles, dune buggies, etc… Many laughs are enjoyed and shared while thinking of Sam.
All are welcome to join Sam’s family at his viewing on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Jeffrey L. Warner officiating. Burial will follow in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill. Sam’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the Lisburn Community Fire Company, 1800 Main Street - Lisburn, Mechanicsburg, PA following the burial. Honored to be pallbearers are: Thomas Banks, Dennis Howard, Justin Howard, Lee Howard, Bob Schaeffer, and Chris Smith.
