Sara Jane (Hare) Nye
Great Mom, Grandmother, and Friend -
Sara Jane (Hare) Nye, age 92, of Camp Hill, and formerly of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully at Manor Care Health Services in Camp Hill on Sunday, September 13, 2020. Sara was born on Sunday, May 6, 1928, in Harrisburg to the late George Washington Hare and Emma Helen (Mason) Hare. She was the widow of John Nye, Jr., whom she married on May 15, 1948, and who died on February 5, 1961. In addition to her parents and husband, Sara is preceded in death by her four siblings: George Hare, Harry Hare, Ruth Egresitz, and Jean Roberts.
Sara’s survivors include: her two children: Lorraine “Rainie” Ann Humer of Mechanicsburg and John “Jackie” Nye, III of Mechanicsburg; her three grandchildren: Dawn Marie McKay and husband Mike (AJ) of Dillsburg, Kelly Ann Rhoads and husband Matt of Lewisberry, Willard “Skip” Christian Humer, III and wife Brandi of New Cumberland; her six great-grandchildren: Erin McKay, Jessica McKay, Jayna Rhoads, Spencer Rhoads, Nealey Humer, Christian Humer; her sister: Mary Ellen “Pat” Kindness of Camp Hill; and many nieces and nephews.
Sara graduated from John Harris High School as part of the class of 1946. She retired from Best Western in Mechanicsburg, after more than 40 years of service working as a manager. Sara was a hard worker with a strong and loving spirit. After the loss of her husband, she raised her two children, one with special needs. Sara was a people person who loved to talk and saw the good in everyone. She was selfless and generous; always willing to do for others no matter what it was. She used her talent for sewing to make wedding dresses for Lorraine and Dawn. Sara enjoyed being on the go, eating out and travelling, especially to Williamsburg, Virginia. Her family will cherish their memories of Sara; a great mom, grandmother, and friend.
Sara’s immediate services will be private while family and friends are encouraged to remain safely at home. Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville will be at the convenience of the family. Services with public gathering will be announced once scheduled. Cremation was private.
The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to everyone at Manor Care in Camp Hill and Homeland Hospice who so lovingly cared for Sara during her illness.
