“Aunt Sally’s Hot Fudge Sauce” -

Sarah “Sally” Louise (Thomas) Blair, age 87, of Mechanicsburg, passed away just minutes shy of her 88 th birthday on Monday, August 14, 2017.  Sally was born on Thursday, August 15, 1929 in Harrisburg to the late Kenneth Sebring Thomas and Kathryn (Brackenridge) Thomas. In addition to her parents, Sally is preceded in death by her first husband, John "Jack" Shetron Blair who she married on October 12, 1952 and who died on April 2, 2008, and her sister Caroline Rhodes who died in 1979.

Sally’s survivors include her husband of seven years, Alfred “Al” Grundon; her two children: Stephen Blair and his wife, Suzanne White, of Mt. Holly Springs; Virginia "Ginger" Sheibley and her husband, Donald, of Mechanicsburg; her two sisters: Patricia Royer and her husband, Alan, of Elizabethtown; Kathryn “Kate” Daugherty of Mechanicsburg; her brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Rhodes; and several nieces and nephews.

Sally graduated from John Harris High School as part of the class of 1947.  She was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Cathedral in Harrisburg for over 30 years and of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Carlisle for almost 30 years.  She was a member of the West Shore Country Club in Camp Hill, the Harrisburg Bridge Club in Harrisburg, as well as several other bridge groups in the area.  Sally always shared her bright smile which was like a ray of sunshine to those she met.  With a grand sense of humor, which could be dry at times, and a social personality it is easy to understand how Sally made so many friends.  She loved birds and flower gardening and was known for the most beautiful roses.  Sally may be best known for her “Aunt Sally’s Hot Fudge Sauce” which is the perfect pairing for ice cream.

All are welcome to join Sally’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Friday, August 25, 2017, from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at 12:30 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating.  Sally’s family invites everyone to join them for an ice cream reception with “Aunt Sally’s Hot Fudge Sauce” at Eckel’s Ice Cream Fountain, across the street from the funeral home, immediately following the service.  Burial will follow the reception in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Churchtown, PA.  Cremation was private.

Sally’s family has entrusted her care to Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.  Read Sally’s full obituary, view her memorial video and portrait, and sign her official guest book at Buhrig.com.
