She Never Knew a Stranger -
Sarah “Sally” Margaret (Linn) Lewis, age 85, of Carlisle, PA , and formerly of Willingboro, NY, and Cumberland, MD , peacefully went to heaven on Friday, August 8, 2014. Sally was born on Friday, March 15, 1929 in Cumberland, MD to the late William Gardiner Linn and Margaret Elizabeth (Reckley) Linn. In addition to her parents, Sally is preceded in death by her son, Raynor “Danny” Dana Lewis; one grandchild; four brothers; and three sisters.
Sally’s survivors include her loving husband of more than 66 years, Raynor Lewis; her daughter, Carla Jean Kurlish; her sister, Nancy Cage; several great grandchildren; numerous special nieces and nephews; and her beautiful and loving cat, Angel Danny.
Sally graduated from Old Town High School in Maryland as part of the class of 1947 and married her high school sweetheart in 1948. She and her husband of 66 years, Raynor, had two children. Their son, Raynor D. Lewis, died in 2003, he was a Vietnam Veteran, and a daughter, Carla J. Kurlish, who has been a lifelong nurse. Sally loved doing volunteer work at the Rancocas Valley Hospital when she lived in New Jersey. Her hobby was reading. She loved to read. She also enjoyed playing the piano, she played by ear. Shoes were always a favorite of Sally’s. In fact, when she was younger and working in a shoe store she would ask the manager every pay day how much she owed the store. Sally loved people and loved talking to anyone, she never knew a stranger. She will be missed greatly here on earth.
All are welcome to join Sally’s family at her viewing on Monday, August 11, 2014, her husband’s birthday, from 2:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 3:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating. A committal ceremony will immediately follow the funeral service. Burial will be private in Sunset Memorial Park in Cumberland, MD.
