Sarah “Sally” Elizabeth (Stevenson) Maenak

An Inspiring Youthful Exuberance -

Sarah “Sally” Elizabeth (Stevenson) Maenak, age 91, of Gettysburg, and formerly of Glenmoore, PA and Chestertown, MD, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Friday, September 18, 2020.  Sally was born on Thursday, November 8, 1928, in Camden, NJ to the late William Baxter Stevenson and Emma Marie (Parry) Stevenson.  Sally was the widow of Carl Lauber Maenak, whom she married on August 18, 1956, and who died on December 11, 2000.  In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Kim Parry Maenak; her brother, William Stevenson, III; and numerous beloved pets.

Sally’s survivors include her two children: Leslie Ann Casteel of Gettysburg, John Warren Maenak, Sr. and the love of his life, Robin Graber, of Mechanicsburg; her seven grandchildren: Troy Nold, John Maenak, Jr., Eric Nold, Laura Maenak, Carl Maenak, Jordan Romano and Lydia Casteel; her three great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law: Beverly Stevenson of Moorestown, NJ; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved golden retriever, Gilligan.

Sally graduated from Moorestown High School.  She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Chestertown, MD.  Sally was a member of Eagle Hunt Club in Eagle, PA and Bellwood Club in Chester Springs, PA.  She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and Rock Hall Yacht Club.  Sally was an excellent equestrian and loved fox hunting on her beloved, Red Horse.  Her youthful exuberance inspired her family and friends.  Sally loved to play with her children and grandchildren, of whom she always made a priority.  She also loved the water and going to the Chesapeake Bay, where she always watched the sunset.

All are welcome to join Sarah’s family at her viewing on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, MD 21620 with a graveside service and burial beginning at 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Cemetery, 7579 Sandy Bottom Rd, Chestertown, MD 21620; with Father Frank St. Amour officiating.

The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to everyone with Homeland Hospice who so lovingly cared for Sally during her illness.
