Shirley Ann (Reynolds) Fake, age 81, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior with her loving family by her side on Friday, October 26, 2018.  Shirley was born on Friday, April 9, 1937 in Mechanicsburg to the late Mervin Sunday Reynolds and Helen Pauline (Martin) Reynolds.  In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her infant son, Scott Fake; her two siblings: Robert Reynolds, Mildred Scearce; and her son-in-law, Charles Warner.

Shirley’s survivors include her husband of 60 years, Walter “Walt” Harvey Fake, Jr.; her three children: Cindy Hoover and her husband, Greg, of Mechanicsburg, Christine Warner of Mechanicsburg, Mark Fake and his wife, Karen, of Mechanicsburg; her eight grandchildren: Nicole Tennis of Mechanicsburg, Matthew Hoover and his wife, Jessica, of Carlisle, Heather Thumma and her husband, Benjamin, of Mechanicsburg, Amber Fake, Jared Warner, Kyle Fake, Wyatt Fake, Kenna Fake all of Mechanicsburg; her five great-grandchildren, along with Baby Boy Thumma on the way: Alex Tennis, Addyson Tennis, Parker Thumma, Hanna Hoover, Callie Hoover; her two siblings: Doris Berger and her husband, Mark, of Dillsburg, William Reynolds and his wife, Margie, of Mechanicsburg; her Fresh Air Fund daughter, Emma Rodriguez and her husband, Erich Wolf;  and her many nieces and nephews, of which are too numerous to mention, that saw her as a motherly figure.

Shirley graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1955 where she was a cheerleader, starting in 7th grade until graduation.  She also participated in both the Drama and Glee Club.  Shirley worked as a secretary for Bell Telephone Company, The Naval Supply Depot in Mechanicsburg, Allied Mills, and the Boy Scouts of America.  She was a member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg since the mid 1950’s, where she served as a youth group advisor and taught Sunday school.  Shirley enjoyed playing the piano, singing, and dancing, especially The Jitterbug.  She loved spending time with her family.  They would often go camping, fishing, or play board games together.  In her later years, Shirley traveled all over with her husband, Walt, to different antique shops and auctions.  The two liked collecting Amish quilts, wall hangings, and antique oil lamps.  Shirley loved watching her grandchildren in their various activities, especially when they played baseball.  She enjoyed watching TV with her family; her favorites included watching old westerns, detective shows, Little House on the Prairie, soap operas and sports, especially the Phillies.

She was well loved and often served as a second mother to so many; Shirley was affectionately known as Gram to so many.  Shirley was always concerned about others.  She was the kind of person that would give and give with no expectations of anything in return.  She would also look for the good in everyone, no matter what.  Shirley’s sense of humor helped to endear her to those around her; and her love of all children was evident to all that knew her.

All are welcome to join Shirley’s family for her service on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, 117 West Keller Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Eric Anderson officiating.  Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.  Honored to be pallbearers are: Gary Fake, Sr., Mark Fake, Matthew Hoover, Jared Warner, Kyle Fake, and Wyatt Fake.  Shirley’s family invites everyone to join them for a reception and greeting of guests at her church following the burial.
