Shirley Anne (Hartland) Godwin, age 92, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.  Shirley was born on Saturday, December 29, 1928, in Renovo to the late Benjamin Thomas Hartland, Sr. and Helen Anne (Fessler) Hartland.  Shirley was the widow of Gerald “Jerry” Carroll Godwin, whom she married on April 17, 1947, and who died on March 22, 1991.  In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley is preceded in death by her brother, Benjamin Thomas Hartland II.

Shirley’s survivors include her two children: Garret Godwin of Mechanicsburg, Lynne Beck and husband, Don, of Holly Ridge, NC; and her two grandchildren: Brice and Capri Morey.

Shirley graduated from Chester High School as part of the class of 1945. She retired from Electronic Data Systems (EDS) after five years of service as a receptionist.  Shirley loved to travel, especially to Europe.  She also enjoyed music, dancing, bowling, and curling.  Shirley was an avid reader, so much so that she would finish at least one book a week.  Everyone who encountered Shirley couldn’t help but catch her contagious smile.  She was a devoted wife and mother who loved her husband and family dearly.  Shirley was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren; doting on her grandson and granddaughter all the time.

Shirley’s family will be remembering her life privately.  Interment in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill will be at the family’s convenience.  Cremation was private.
