Shirley Ann (Vogelsong) Stoltz
A Loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother -
Shirley Ann (Vogelsong) Stoltz, age 58, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Carlisle, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at UPMC Pinnacle West Shore Hospital, on Monday, August 8, 2022. Shirley was born on Thursday, December 12, 1963, in Mechanicsburg to Helen Marie (Zimmerman) Vogelsong and the late Lester Lawrence Vogelsong. In addition to her father, Shirley is preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth “Kenny” Vogelsong and her three sisters, Vickie Crone, Barbara “Barb” Riordan and Sharon Eisenhour.
Shirley’s survivors include her husband of 10 years, James Robert Stoltz, Sr.; her mother, Helen Marie (Zimmerman) Vogelsong of Carlisle; her three children: William “Will” Dennis Hesse III and wife, Jess, of Lemoyne, Megan Nicole Deiter of Carlisle, Emily Anne Deiter and significant other, Jordan McVey, of Middletown; her three step-children: James “Robbie” Robert Stoltz, Jr. and wife, Terrie, of Centerville, VA, Rebecca Narworth of Centerville, VA, Meagan Gregory and husband, Joel, of Boiling Springs, SC; her three grandchildren; her five step grandchildren; her four siblings: Robert Vogelsong of Mechanicsburg, Brad Vogelsong of Carlisle, Lester Vogelsong of Carlisle, Rose Block and husband, Joe, of College Grove, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
Shirley graduated from Cumberland Valley High School as part of the class of 1981 and went on to become a licensed practical nurse. She worked as a licensed practical nurse for HealthSouth in Mechanicsburg and for 15 years for Hospice of Central Pennsylvania. Shirley enjoyed crochet, tending to her garden and paddling on the rivers and streams in a kayak. She also loved going to the beach and watching movies at home. Shirley’s kind and caring spirit was evident in her ministry of caring for the homeless. Her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her family. Shirley truly loved spending time with her family, playing card games and spoiling her grandchildren. Shirley will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
All are welcome to join Shirley’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Friday, August 12, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend John F. Overman officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens in Carlisle. Shirley’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 4685 Mt Zion Drive, Enola, PA 17025 immediately following the burial. Honored to be pallbearers are: Will Hesse, III, Michael Block, Joe Block, Megan Deiter, Robbie Stoltz, Jr. Robert Vogelsong.
