Shirley “GiGi” Louise (Leonard) Jones
Family was everything to her -
Shirley “Gigi” Louise (Leonard) Jones, age 86, of Carlisle, and formerly of Marysville, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022. Shirley was born on Friday, December 20, 1935, in Harrisburg to the late Luin Landis Leonard and Mary Elizabeth (Lambert) Leonard. Shirley was the widow of George Royal Jones, whom she married on December 4, 1953, and who died on January 28, 1994. In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley is preceded in death by her four brothers: Dick Leonard, Robert Leonard, Billy Leonard and Sammy Leonard; and her two sisters: Doris Leonard and Ruthie Garmann.
Shirley’s survivors include her three children: Deborah Ann Shettel and her husband, Bob, of Aspers; Rodney “Jonesy” Eugene Jones and his wife, Vicki, of Carlisle; Denise Gladys Paver and her husband, William, of Carlisle; her four grandchildren: Trina Perva and her husband, Brad; Brittany Spitler and her husband, Mike; Ashlee Horne and her husband, Jeff; Courtney Spangler and her husband, Mark; her eight great-grandchildren: Kenley, Brady, Wyatt, Jackson, Jacob, Jaxson, Liam and Hazel; her four brothers: Donnie Leonard of Marysville; Jimmy Leonard of Marysville; Tommy Leonard of Marysville; Kenney Leonard and his wife, Connie, of Landisburg; her two sisters: Virginia Hazzard of Marysville and Betty Leonard of Marysville; her two sister in-laws: Deb Leonard of Marysville and Judy Leonard of Enola; and many nieces and nephews.
An animal lover, Shirley liked to feed the birds and loved going to Chincoteaque Island to see the horses; she even owned several horses and carriages with her husband, George. She enjoyed flowers, baking, shopping at Wal-Mart and collecting teddy bears; Boyds Bears in particular. Shirley loved attending picnics with her large family and was happiest when she was around her grandchildren. Family was everything to Shirley. She will be deeply missed by both family and friends alike.
All are welcome to join Shirley’s family at her viewing on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating. Burial will follow the service in Mechanicsburg Cemetery in Mechanicsburg. Honored to be pallbearers are: Tracy Gleim, Mike Spitler, Brad Perva, Joseph Jones, Sammy Leonard and Brandon Rudy. Shirley’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the burial.
