Sondra "Sandy" Jeannine (Ziegler) Snyder, age 86, of Mechanicsburg, transitioned peacefully into eternal life on Saturday, August 24, 2024. Sandy was born, full of grace, in Cresaptown, Maryland on Sunday, March 20, 1938, the only child of the late George Theodor and Eva Marie (Richardson) Ziegler.
Raised in Allegheny County Maryland, Sandy came to Loysville Pennsylvania when her parents became house parents for the former Tressler Orphan’s Home. Upon graduation from Green Park Union High School, Sandy entered the nursing program at Roxborough Memorial Hospital in Philadelphia, from which she graduated and received her certification as a registered nurse in 1959. During her nursing career, she worked in med surg, as a private duty nurse, and finally her favorite position as a labor and delivery room nurse at Harrisburg Hospital. She truly enjoyed working with new moms and families.
Family was important to Sandy. While in Philadelphia, a visit from a handsome young Airman from Landisburg Pennsylvania began a relationship that would last over 65 years. Sandy is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ronald James (Jim) Snyder; her three daughters: Cathay Snyder of Mechanicsburg, Cheryl Keeney and husband, David of Mechanicsburg, Rhonda Wood and husband Jeffrey of Boiling Springs; five grandchildren: Rick Batley (Susan Bradley), Lauren Keeney (Peter Watson), Corey Keeney, Daniel and Jaydenn Wood, and two great-grandchildren: Henry and Aidan Batley.
Faith was also an important part of Sandy’s life. She was a member of Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed participating in the activities of the former Pep Set social group, attending the Dave Petko Sunday school class, and being part of the Presbyterian Women and their Circle groups.
Sandy’s memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday September 7, 2024 at Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Kathryn Z. Johnston officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church, 300 East Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
