Sonia “Sonny” Ruthele (Wilson) Moats

Sonia “Sonny” Ruthele (Wilson) Moats, age 81, of Mechanicsburg , and formerly of Camp Hill , died at Holy Spirit Hospital on Friday, September 19, 2014. Sonny was born on Saturday, July 8, 1933 in Goree, Texas, to the late Thomas Hampton Wilson and Hilma (Janeway) Wilson.
Sonny’s survivors include her loving husband of 59 years, William “Bill” Curtis Moats; her son, Curtis W. Moats, and his wife, Anita, of Mechanicsburg; and her three grandchildren: Anthony, Rachel, and Olivia.
Sonny was an Air Force Veteran and enjoyed serving as a 20-year Army Reserve Veteran . Sonny was fiercely proud to have been born in Texas, a state she loved. She and her husband, Bill, lived in many places and were actually residing in Alaska when it became a state. As a result of her travels, Sonny collected and loved to share many life stories. Locally, they enjoyed bowling at Trindle Bowl in Mechanicsburg and Sonny took pleasure in growing and nurturing her African Violets.
All are welcome to join Sonny’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, from 10:30 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Naomi Sease Carriker officiating. Cremation was private. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA, where full military honors will be presented.
