A Hardworking Woman

Stella (Siedlecki) Backley, age 96, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Wapwallopen, passed away peacefully at The Gardens at Camp Hill on Monday, December 24, 2018.  Stella was born on Sunday, January 21, 1922 in Nanticoke to the late William Siedlecki and Josephine (Sereco) Siedlecki.  She was the widow of Robert Texas Backley, whom she married on October 20, 1941, and who died on September 23, 2002.  In addition to her parents and her husband, Stella is preceded in death by her two brothers, Frank Siedlecki and Joseph Siedlecki.

Stella’s survivors include her three children: Ruth Ann Smith of Mechanicsburg, Robert “Bob” M. Backley of Mechanicsburg, Michael “Mike” J. Backley and his wife, Carol, of Mechancisburg; her one granddaughter, Lisa Stella DeVore and her husband, Adam, of Williamsburg, VA; her one great-granddaughter, Lauren Brooke DeVore Williamsburg, VA; her one sister: Esther Acker of Wilmington, DE; and several nieces and nephews.

Stella was a hard working woman, who loved to laugh. She worked as a seamstress at dress factories in the Harrisburg and New Cumberland areas. Stella also spent much of her life as a homemaker, who provided tirelessly for her family.  She loved spending time with her family, whether it was picnicking on the banks of the Conodoguinet Creek or on fishing trips while vacationing in Florida.

All are welcome to join Stella’s family at her viewing on Friday, December 28, 2018, from 2:30 p.m. until time of service at 3:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant Patti Vogel celebrating.  Entombment in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill, will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
