Stella “Butch” Grace (Shoop) Jones

Stella “Butch” Grace (Shoop) Jones, age 89, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on Friday, March 27, 2020.  Butch was born on Saturday, November 1, 1930, in Shade Gap, PA to the late Florence J. (Moore) Shoop and Clifford L. Shoop.  In addition to her parents, Butch is preceded in death by her one brother and sister.

Butch’s survivors include her companion Phil Poth of Mechanicsburg; her four children: Ronald “Ron” Jones and wife Brenda of Dillsburg, Richard “Rich” P. Jones and wife Josie of New Cumberland, Sharon Garman of Carlisle, Roger Jones of Hummelstown; her six grandchildren: Trina, Tony, Cory, Christine, Holly, Matt; her eleven great-grandchildren; her one great-great-grandson; her three siblings; and several nieces and nephews.

While Butch worked outside her home for the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, she also had her own hair salon business in her home for 40 years; continuing as a beautician even after she retired from the State.  Butch was a proud, life member of VFW Memorial Post 6704 Color Guard and Ladies Auxiliary.  She loved to garden with Phil and enjoyed canning their fresh-grown produce.  Butch was a good mother who would do anything for her children.  They endearingly describe her as “a pistol” and “hell on wheels”.  Her grandchildren will always remember the trinkets she gave to them, and her entire family will miss Butch’s colorful personality.

Butch’s immediate services will be private with public services to be announced when scheduled.  Private burial in Fair Ridge Cemetery in Shade Gap, PA will be held at the family’s convenience.
