Stephen “Steve” Francis Hodgson, Sr., 78, of Mechanicsburg , PA, and formerly of Cedar Grove, NJ, died peacefully at home and with his wife by his side on Monday, March 17, 2014. He was born in Montclair, NJ, on Thursday, December 19, 1935, son of the late Francis S. Hodgson and Marion (Hazen) Hodgson. Steve was the husband of Winifred “Winnie” H. (Neal) Hodgson whom he married on June 25, 1973.
In addition to Steve’s loving wife, Winnie, he is survived by his two sons, Stephen F. Hodgson, Jr. and his wife Donna of New Jersey, William “Bill” Hodgson and his wife Michelle and their son Ethan of Texas; his brother, Stuart Hodgson and his wife Kay of Florida; his sister, Carol Marks of Maryland; Natasha and Taylor Wicker who were like granddaughters to him; and his beloved dog, Barbara. Among those preceding Steve in death are his late wife, Marion (Schilling) Hodgson who died in 1972, and his son, Kenneth Hodgson.
Steve graduated from Bloomfield High School in New Jersey and from William Paterson State University after which he became a teacher. He retired as a teacher from the Cedar Grove School System in New Jersey in June of 1991. Steve enjoyed many activities throughout his life, including: golfing, canoeing, biking, reading, scouting, running ambulance as an EMT, and communing with nature. Winnie and he found much joy over the years exploring Nova Scotia together. Many friends will remember his talks on history, while wearing his American Flag shirt, at Country Meadows. Steve was a wonderful man who will be missed by many.
All are welcome to join Steve’s family at his celebration of life reception and gathering of family and friends on Friday, March 28, 2014, from 1:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at Country Meadows of the West Shore, Building #5 – Dining Room , 4831 East Trindle Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050, with Pastor Martin Romain and Pastor Dennis Fulk officiating. Cremation was private and Steve’s cremated remains will be released to nature privately.
