Kind-Hearted Daredevil -

Stephen “Steve” Edward Schaefer, age 62, of Mechanicsburg, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, June 9, 2019.  Steve was born on Tuesday, December 4, 1956, in Harrisburg to Charles Louis Schaefer, Sr. and Joyce Arlene (Lucas) Schaefer.

Steve’s survivors include his wife of 18 years, Deborah “Debbie” Ann (Siters) Schaefer; his parents, Charles and Joyce Schaefer, Sr. of Mechanicsburg; his brother, Charles L. Schaefer, Jr. and his wife, Leslie, of Camp Hill; his niece, Carly Schaefer of San Diego, CA; his uncle and lifetime friend, Darrell Lucas and his wife, Anna, of New Cumberland; and his beloved canine companion, Gracie.

Steve proudly served his country in the United States Navy.  He retired from the New Cumberland Army Depot, after 35 years of service working as a warehouse laborer.  Steve was a daredevil by nature and he liked the outdoors, especially camping with Debbie along the river, hunting, and fishing.  He belonged to fantasy football and baseball leagues.  Living life to the fullest and being kind-hearted, Steve would do anything for anybody.  He loved his fur babies; Gracie, along with the rest of Steve’s family, will miss him very much.

All are welcome to join Steve’s family at his viewing on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.  Burial will be on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, where full military honors will be presented by VFW Post 23 Honor Guard.  Honored to be pallbearers are Charles Schaefer, Jr., and Greg Lucas.  The family invites everyone to dress casually and comfortably for both the viewing and burial.
