Steven “Stevo” Edgar Dority

Steven “Stevo” Edgar Dority, age 68, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Gardners, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at Fox Subacute Center on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, after a long and courageous battle with muscular dystrophy.  Steven was born on Sunday, February 24, 1952, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Carolyn Elaine Dority.  In addition to his mother, Steven is preceded in death by his half-brother, Gregg Rolf Dority.

Steven’s survivors include his half-sister Lisa Hertz and husband Jonathan of Magdalena, New Mexico; his dear friend Patricia “Pat” Ann Gannon and husband Stephen of Bendersville, Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews, including Adam Dority and Jeffrey C. Hertz; and numerous cousins, including: Bob Schudel, Deb (Dority) Reigle, Jay Dority, Robin Gebell, and Elizabeth Dority.

Steven proudly served in the U.S. Army for two years with the Big Red One, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry, Blue Spaders.  After being displaced by Hurricane Katrina, Steven made his home in South Central Pennsylvania where he was a longtime member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Gettysburg.  Steven was a people person who loved to joke and visit with friends, and cherished his friendships made throughout his life.  He enjoyed working and made many lifelong friends at NAPA Auto Parts and Domino’s Pizza in Greater New Orleans. He was a fervent fan of the New Orleans Saints.  Some of Steven’s favorite pastimes included:  listening to music, especially classic 60s rock and roll; drinking Jim Beam Bourbon Apple; reading war history books; and admiring antique and classic cars.  Those who knew “Stevo” will continue to have fond memories of him.

All are welcome to join Steven’s family at his Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 25 West High Street, Gettysburg, PA 17325; with Reverend Daniel Mitzel celebrating with lunch immediately following; and for his committal ceremony with military honors on Friday, July 30, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville with lunch immediately following.  Cremation was private.

The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to Sharon Groft, Program Director at South Central Community Action Programs, along with everyone at Spring Creek Rehabilitation and Healthcare, and Fox Subacute Center who so lovingly cared for Steven during his illness.
