An Avid Angler -

Steven “Steve” Alan Fahnestock, age 73, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022.  Steve was born on Saturday, December 4, 1948, in Mechanicsburg to the late Floyd Andrew Fahnestock, Sr. and Betty Arlene (Moyer) Fahnestock.

Steve’s survivors include his wife of 52 years, Rebecca “Becky” Jane (Stoner) Fahnestock; his three daughters:  Jill Ann Hoffman and husband, William, III, of Dillsburg, Jamie Ann Hoffman and husband, Douglas, of Dillsburg, Dawn Fahnestock and significant other, Justin Gamble, of Dillsburg; his four grandchildren: Brielle Hoffman, Levi Rupp, Jesse Fahnestock and Harper Gamble; his brother, Floyd Andrew Fahnestock, Jr. and wife, Carol, of Carlisle; and several nieces and nephews.

Steve graduated from Cumberland Valley High School as part of the class of 1966.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1971, where he spent three years at sea on the U.S.S. Forrestal.  He retired from the Navy Depot in Mechanicsburg, after 32 years of service working as a supervisor.  Prior to working at the Navy Depot, Steve worked for Westinghouse Electric Co. in Maryland and Oven Industries in Mechanicsburg.  Steve was a longtime member of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, The Mechanicsburg Club, Corporal Orlando Newcomer VFW Post 477 in Carlisle, American Legion Post 109 in Mechanicsburg and Carlisle Fish & Game Association.  He loved watching Penn State University football games on television and playing canasta and Michigan Rummy with his daughters and grandchildren.  He loved to be outdoors and had a passion for fishing.  If Steve, wasn’t hunting for deer or bear, he was fishing for bass and trout from his boat on the lakes and rivers of central Pennsylvania or riding his beloved 1983 Honda Goldwing.  He cherished the time that he spent teaching his oldest grandson to fish and enjoyed going to Benezette to see the Elk herd.  Steve enjoyed working in his garden and caring for his lawn.  He also loved to work in his garage fixing things and taking care of his lawn mowers and lawn equipment.  Steve was known to spend time in his workshop making bird houses, quilt racks and step stools.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

All are welcome to join Steve’s family on Friday, April 8, 2022, at his viewing from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:30 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; and his virtual gathering of family and friends and service via video chat or telephone beginning at 12:15 p.m.; with Pastor Aaron M.
