A Loving Wife, Mother, & Grandmother -

Suzanne “Sue” (McCormick) Cassarly, age 74, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at home peacefully with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, January 17, 2017.  Sue was born on Tuesday, December 1, 1942 in Altoona to the late Charles McCormick and Martha Jane (McGough) McCormick.

Sue’s survivors include her loving husband of 55 years, James “Jim” William Cassarly; her four children: William “Bill” Cassarly and his wife, Mary Sue, of Wooster, OH, Mary Jo Burnett and her husband, Jeff, of New Bern, NC, Robert “Bob” Cassarly and his wife, Melanie, of Elmira, NY, John Cassarly and his wife, Tammy; and her nine grandchildren: Jason, Matthew, Gregory, Samantha, Christy, Lauren, Jared, Olivia, Ellie.

Sue graduated from Altoona Central High School as part of the class of 1960 and from Harrisburg Area Community College in the 1960s.  She retired from PinnacleHealth Harrisburg Hospital, after almost 20 years of service working as an ICU nurse.  Sue attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband on the back of his motorcycle all over the United States and Canada.  Sue savored in going to wineries and the Finger Lakes.  She loved being a nurse and didn’t want to retire because she relished in caring for others.

She took great pride in her house where she liked to spend time cooking, engaging in good conversations, sharing in good jokes, staying up late, and sleeping in.  Sue was a classy lady who always looked beautiful, no matter what she was wearing.  She was the sweetest person who was very accepting of everyone.  Sue was always there for others and just so nice.  Most importantly, Sue loved her family and she cherished the time they spent together.

All are welcome to join Sue’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Monday, January 23, 2017, from 10:30 a.m. until time of blessing service at 11:30 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with The Reverend Thomas J. Rozman officiating.  Sue’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at The Stage & Studio Café, next door to the funeral home, following the service.  Cremation was private.

The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to Dr. Alfred Leal and everyone at Hematology & Oncology Consultants of PA who so lovingly cared for Sue.
