Suzanne Durant Clough

A Woman of Many Names -

Suzanne Durant Clough, age 89, of Carlisle, and formerly of Lancaster and the Philadelphia area, passed away at the Church of God Home and with her family by her side on Tuesday, August 6, 2019.  Suzanne was born on Monday, June 2, 1930 in Philadelphia to the late Harrison Durant and Marie (Hartmann) Durant.  Suzanne was the widow of John Finley Clough, Jr., whom she married on November 20, 1950, and who died on August 6, 2000.  In addition to her parents and husband, Suzanne is preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Clough; her granddaughter, Emily Marie Harrison Roznowski; and her three sisters: Phyllis Durant, Lois Hand, and Patricia Littell.

Suzanne’s survivors include her four children: John Finley Clough, III, and his wife, Marian Lee, Auke Bay, AK, Joanne Harrison Clough of Camp Hill, Suzanne Clough Bell and her husband, Craig Marshall, of Lambertville, NJ, Ellen Clough Devine of Phoenixville; her six grandchildren: Martha Harrison Bell, Megan Elizabeth Felts, Daniel Finley Weems, Craig Marshall Bell, Jr., Francis Peter Devine, III, Diane Elizabeth Harrison Roznowski; her three step-grandchildren: Gwenn Michael Hennon, Leigh Burgess Clark, Martina Angela Miller; her seven great-grandchildren: Riley Marie Weems, Jason Weems, Archer Weems, Jackson Wayne Felts, Carter Harrison Gens, Elizabeth Claire Bell, Grace Ann Elizabeth Felts; her two step-great-grandchildren: Isaac Treadwell Hennon, Mara Kluane Hennon; her brother-in-law, Albert Harley Clough; and her seven nieces and nephews.

Suzanne graduated from Lower Merion High School in Montgomery County.  She retired from C&H Personnel in Lancaster, after over 10 years of service working as the owner and operator.  Suzanne was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church.  She was also a lifelong Democrat and a close follower of politics as well as the local and world news.  Suzanne was an excellent cook who enjoyed being surrounded by food and conversation.  She loved to play Bridge and could be quite competitive at times.  Suzanne was also an intense crossword puzzler.  She really liked to help her friends in any possible way.

Family was very important to Suzanne and she cherished the time they would all spend together.  For over 50 years, she would spend time with her husband and family at Eagles Mere, a very special retreat for all of them.  Suzanne loved the friendship she had with her husband and she was so proud of how she took care of him towards the end of his life.  The two felt very blessed to have been able to spend 50 years together before John’s passing.  Suzanne was a “woman of many names” to her family members.  They called her Suzanne, Mom, Gia, Granny, and Gigi.  All of the various names showed just how important and involved she was in their lives, especially those of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

All are welcome to join Suzanne’s family at her memorial service on Sunday, August 11, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s in the Wilderness Episcopal Church, 50 Jones Avenue, Eagles Mere, PA 17731.  Interment will follow in Eagles Mere Cemetery.  Cremation was private.
