Sylvia Ruth (Frederick) Gingerich

A Real Sweetheart -

Sylvia Ruth (Frederick) Gingerich, age 89, of Shiremanstown, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 19, 2019.  Sylvia was born on Friday, September 13, 1929 in South Mountain to the late Daniel A. Frederick.  Sylvia was the widow of Joseph Walter Gingrich, whom she married on February 8, 1947, and who died on February 5, 1996.  In addition to her parents and husband, Sylvia is preceded in death by her brother, Daniel Frederick; her sister, Wanda Clugston; and her step mother, Margaret Florence Frederick.

Sylvia’s survivors include her five children: Linda Jean Olson and her husband, Arthur, of Menifee, CA, Sharon Louise Hykes and her husband, Albert, of Shiremanstown, PA, Joseph “Joe” Daniel Gingerich of Shiremanstown, PA, Karen Ann Nerat and her companion, Ron Pentz, of Carlisle, PA, Donald “Don” Lee Gingerich of Camp Hill, PA; her nine grandchildren; her 17 great-grandchildren; her great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews; and her beloved canine companion, Max.

Sylvia worked in a Rough Wear factory in Middletown in the 1940’s helping to make uniforms for the troops during the war.  She was a woman of strong faith and dedication to the Lord.  Sylvia loved doing crafts, sewing, gardening, and tending to her flowerbeds.  She also enjoyed being surrounded by nature and spending time with her beloved dog, Max.  Sylvia will be most remembered for her loving and kind spirit; she truly was a real sweetheart.

All are welcome to join Sylvia’s family at her viewing on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Alan Echard officiating.  Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Harrisburg.  Honored to be pallbearers are:  Joseph Gingerich, Donald Gingerich, Albert Hykes, Sr., Albert Hykes, Jr., Matthew Hykes and Ronald Pentz.
