A Crafty Woman -

Terrie S. (Miller) Thompson, age 81, of Shippensburg, and formerly of East Berlin and Carlisle, was reunited with her husband and the Lord peacefully in her sleep on Monday, January 16, 2017.  Terrie was born on Monday, November 25, 1935 in Millersburg to the late Frederick Merlyn Miller and Irma Patricia (Fawber) Miller.  Terrie was the widow of Lt. William W. Thompson, whom she married on January 30, 1954, and who died on September 27, 1983.  In addition to her parents and husband, Terrie is preceded in death by her beautiful granddaughter, Private First Class (PFC) Beverly Dawna Spencer of the United States Army.

Terrie’s survivors include her four children: Kenneth “Ken” Michael Thompson of Loysville, Cynthia Dawn Thompson of Fairfield, Cheryl L. Spencer of Mount Joy, Charlene B. Mateer and her husband, Roger, of Mt. Holly Springs; her five grandchildren: Justin K. Mickley, Carissa Dawn Alaimo and her husband, Matt Zelasko, James A. Spencer and his wife, Amy, Tyrell Drew and his wife, Emily, Trey Mateer; and her five great-grandchildren: Darren, Dylan, Beverley, Mason, Nora.

Terrie graduated from Towson High School as part of the class of 1953 and she attended Towson State College.  She decided to go back to school while her children were still young and she graduated from Hanover Nursing School in 1975.  She was a member of Messiah Methodist Church in Shippensburg, where she used to teach Sunday school.  Terrie was also a member of the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post 6168 in Shippensburg.  She was a very crafty woman who loved needlepoint, creating quilts, making potpourri, and flower pressing, just to name a few of her hobbies.  Terrie enjoyed gardening and creating concoctions that could help heal any ailment with her herbology.

Terrie’s family will be remembering her life privately.  Burial in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville will be at the family’s convenience.

The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to Lutheran Spirit Hospice and everyone at Messiah United Methodist Church for their loving care during her illness.
