Terry Lynn Adams, age 74, of Richfield, PA, died at Richfield Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center on Monday, August 10, 2020. Terry was born Thursday, May 9, 1946, in Carlisle to the late Wilbert “Shorty” Russell Adams and Geraldine “Gerry” Frieda (Sadler) Adams. In addition to his parents, Terry is preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Sue Ellen Adams.
Terry’s survivors include his wife of 52 years, Joan Irene (Haverstock) Adams; his two children: Heather VanHoy of Mechanicsburg, Troy Adams of Camp Hill; his three grandsons: Zachary Fritz, William “Billy” Adams, Drew VanHoy; his great-grandson, Zachary Fritz, Jr.; his brother, Everett “Ted” Lee Adams; and his beloved canine companion, Fred.
Terry graduated from Cumberland Valley High School as part of the class of 1966. He retired from Wackenhut as a security officer at Mechanicsburg Auto Auction. Prior to that, for many years, Terry operated forklifts at Kinney Shoes, Watts Business Forms, and Fry Communications. Terry was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in New Kingstown, and later, Wolgamuth Church of the Brethren in Dillsburg. He was a life member of the New Kingstown Fire Company 33, as well as a volunteer with Silver Spring Ambulance Association. Terry also belonged to American Legion Post 109 in Mechanicsburg. Terry’s nature as a people person drew him to volunteer as a patient transporter at Holy Spirit Hospital. He was at ease talking to anyone and he liked to help and care for people. Terry had a passion for model trains, NASCAR, local Sprint Car racing at Williams Grove, Philadelphia Eagles football, and WWE. He especially enjoyed his grandsons. Terry was Joan’s rock, and she will miss him very dearly.
All are welcome to join Terry’s family at his viewing on Friday September 11, 2020, from 10:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Douglas Miller officiating. A casket closing and committal ceremony will follow the service. Burial in Wolgamuth Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Dillsburg will be private. Honored to be pallbearers are: Billy Adams, Drew VanHoy, and Troy Adams.
The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to everyone at Richfield Healthcare and Rehabilitation who so lovingly cared for Terry during his residence.
