Thelma (Gibbons) Kemberling, age 97, of Carlisle, went home on Saturday, January 23, 2021.  Thelma was born on Friday, August 17, 1923, in Harrisburg to the late Lewis Gibbons and Helen Viola (Kitzmiller) Gibbons.  Thelma was the widow of Charles Merritt Kemberling, Sr., whom she married on November 1, 1958, and who died on January 20, 2018.  In addition to her parents and husband, Thelma is preceded in death by her son, Charles M. Kemberling, Jr.; and her daughter, Patricia Blazer.

Thelma’s survivors include her stepson, Terrence “Terry” Kemberling and wife Laura of New Cumberland; her grandson, Donald Blazer of PA; her sister, Barbara Sheaffer and husband Robert of Mechanicsburg; and her special friends and caregivers, Becky and Dave Weaver of Mechanicsburg.

Thelma worked for Howard Johnson’s on the Pennsylvania Turnpike for 25 years.  She was a tough manager who always expected exceptional work.  Thelma was an excellent cook that could make just about anything.  She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

All are welcome to join Thelma’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Thursday, January 28, 2021, from 10:15 a.m. until time of service at 10:30 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant Patti Vogl officiating.  Burial in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery will be private and at the family’s convenience.
