Thelma I. (Miller) Sheely, age 92, of Bethany Towers in Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 12, 2019. Thelma was born on Friday, February 4, 1927 in Carlisle to the late Scott Miller and Lilly Jane (Scheaffer) Miller. Thelma was the widow of Robert “Bob” P. Sheely, Jr., whom she married on March 8, 1964, and who died on June 10, 2002. In addition to her parents and husband, Thelma is preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.
Thelma’s survivors include four children: Marilyn McNeil and her significant other, Dan Dunbar, of Carlisle, Noble McLaughlin and her significant other, Chris Durnin, of Carlisle, Christopher “Chris” Stevens and his wife, Theresa, of Duncannon, Patricia “Patty” Bridy and her significant other, Geoff Howard, of Camp Hill; her six grandchildren; her five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Thelma retired from Bethany Village in Mechanicsburg, after 10 years of service working as a housekeeper. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. Thelma enjoyed going to yard sales, and her family fondly remembers her as the queen of Avon. She was also the dancing queen, and loved to have a good time dining out, dancing, and socializing with friends and family, who will all miss her dearly.
All are welcome to join Thelma’s family at her viewing on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, from 12:30 p.m. until time of funeral service at 1:30 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Vicar Micki Kautz officiating. Burial will follow in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens in Carlisle. Honored to be pallbearers are: Dan Dunbar, Chris Durnin, Colby Keister, Casey McLaughlin, Jeremiah, and Ray Snyder. Thelma’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Momma Spriggs Casual Eatery, 160 York Road, Carlisle, PA 17013, immediately following the burial.
