Thomas “Tom” C. Sanders, age 59, of Lewisberry, died unexpectedly on Sunday, September 18, 2016. Tom was born on Wednesday, November 28, 1956 in Hershey to the late Harold Franklin Sanders and Ruth (Fike) Sanders.
Tom’s survivors include his wife of 31 years, Louella (Bahn) Sanders; his three children: Michael Sanders and his wife, Leanne, of Mechanicsburg, Megan Sanders of Lewisberry, Emily Schaffner and her husband, Dillion, of Lewisberry; his three siblings: Jim Sanders and his wife, Tina, Dan Sanders and his wife, Wendy, Chris Gipe; and several nieces and nephews.
Tom graduated from Lower Dauphin High School as part of the class of 1975. He worked for Norfolk Southern in the Enola Diesel Shop for over 34 years. Tom started working there in 1975 and continuing doing so until 2009. He enjoyed working part-time doing maintenance at Liberty Forge Golf Course. Tom was a member of the Masons for 25 years and a member of the Mechanicsburg Club. He loved to hunt and fish and he enjoyed sitting on his front porch in the evenings. He always had to be doing something and keeping busy. He was a true friend who was always there for everyone. Tom would help anyone with anything in a heartbeat. He was known for telling things very bluntly and to the point and, despite his tough exterior, he had a remarkably caring heart.
All are welcome to join Tom’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, from 3:00 p.m. until time of Masonic Service at 4:15 p.m. and memorial service at 4:30 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating. Tom’s family invites everyone to join them for a Dutch treat time of food and fellowship at Hoss’s Steak & Sea House, 61 Gettysburg Pike, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, following the service. Cremation was private.
