Thomas “Tom” Howard Shue
Thomas “Tom” Howard Shue, age 75, of Lemoyne, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. Tom was born on Wednesday, May 14, 1947, in Harrisburg to the late Clyde Shue and Ellen J. (Donley) Shue. Tom was the widower of Wendy S. Shue, whom he married on February 18, 1989, and who died on February 28, 2023. In addition to his parents and wife, Tom is preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Zentmeyer.
Tom’s survivors include his three children: Jessica McCloskey and her husband, Patrick, of Elizabethtown; Thomas Shue of Lemoyne; Emily Johnson and her husband, Matthew, of New Cumberland; his six grandchildren: Audrey, Camden, Kellan, Ryder, Hollis, Maverick; his two sisters: Barbara Imboden of Virginia Beach, VA; Phyllis Martin of Lititz; and several nieces and nephews.
Tom graduated from William Penn High School and served in the United States Army Reserves. He retired from Premier Eye Care in Shipoke, after over 20 years of service working as an optician, and then continued to work part time at Kilmore Eye Associates in Mechanicsburg. Tom was a proud, longtime member of the Raccoon Athletic Association, a social club that met until late hours of the night at member’s homes. Known to be a bargain shopper, Tom knew and embraced the value of the dollar, and even a penny. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting for good deals, using coupons and sharing his low price conquests with others. He also loved to read and scrutinize the Patriot News, often calling in with errors in their printing. Both Tom and his late wife, Wendy, were music enthusiasts, but shared no musical talent between them, much to their children’s dismay. They both enjoyed the beach; Wendy the water and Tom the sun and sand. Although they were very much the definition of “opposites attract”, they were committed to each other. Tom was his wife’s primary care giver since her stroke in 2018 until her passing. He was a diehard 76ers fan, an avid bicyclist and loved connecting with neighbors while walking his dogs. Tom had a truly spirited soul and will be missed by many.
