Trudy Ann (Newcomer) Hursen of
Mechanicsburg
passed away unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, April 21, 2012. She was born in
Middletown
on Saturday, June 25, 1938, daughter of the late Ralph I. Newcomer and Virginia (Eckels) Newcomer.
Trudy graduated from
Camp Hill High School
as part of the class of 1956 and from
Penn State University
with a degree in Education. Prior to finding her niche in sales, Trudy was employed as a social worker, was in charge of publicity for the
Red Cross
in Harrisburg and was hired as the
first female police officer in Lower Paxton Township
. While later residing in Atlanta, GA, she became a career sales person and won many awards for her outstanding accomplishments.
Trudy was a thoughtful, caring, high-spirited person who placed great value on her relationships with friends and close family. She was an avid
Penn State Football
fan and a long time supporter of the University. She enjoyed reading, antiquing and listening to classical music and her favorite operas. Very community oriented, she loved learning about local history and was a supporter of the
Mechanicsburg Museum Association
and the newly formed
Historical Society in Shiremanstown
. She was a member of the
Camp Hill and Carlisle Historical Societies
and served on the
Walking Committee of the Main Street Mechanicsburg Board
.
Trudy is survived by her daughter, Pamela Hursen Hall, and her husband, Gary, and their children, Austin and Makenna, all of Lilburn, GA. She also leaves behind her oldest and dearest friend, Patricia (Campbell) Pelkey of Coventry, CT; her aunts and uncles: Robert (Red) and Donna Walter, James and Margaret (Peggy) Fegan of Chambersburg and Harry (Bud) and Betty Eckels of Hummelstown along with many cousins.
All are welcome to join Trudy’s family and friends at her memorial service on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 10:30 at the
Chapel in Rolling Green Memorial Park
, 1811 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill, PA, 17011, with Pastor Timothy P. Dugan officiating. Following the memorial service, everyone is invited to a time of food and fellowship at
Gullifty's Restaurant
, 1104 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill, PA, 17011.
