Valerie "Val" Jo (Bond) Butler
Her Family Came First -
Valerie “Val” Jo (Bond) Butler, age 62, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center with her husband by her side on Saturday, May 15, 2021 after a battle with Leukemia. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the ICU who provided great care and respect for Valerie. Val was born on Tuesday, May 27, 1958 in Williamstown to John “Bill” William Bond and Barbara Rochelle (Adams) Bond.
Valerie is survived by her husband of 41 years Gerald “Jerry” Butler; her two sons: Christopher (Jessica) and Jonathan (Nicole); her four grandchildren: Blake, Jack, Ben and Graci. She is also survived by her parents: John “Bill” Bond and Rochelle Bond of Williamstown; her seven brothers and sisters: Christine Kohler, John Bond (Lori), Renee Dallatore (Lou), JoAnn Rodichok (Charles), Vicki Mitchell (Paul), Paul (Gerlinde), and David (Dawn); her sisters-in-law Donna Japak and Karen Turns (Sam); and many nieces and nephews.
Valerie loved reading novels, watching and feeding her birds, playing bingo, growing flowers, going to the beach and making crafts (particularly her “scrubbies”). She really enjoyed decorating her home (inside and out) for all holidays; but particularly Halloween, when she was known to have toilet papered her own trees. She was a phenomenal cook, baker, and all around wizard in the kitchen and has spoiled the pallets of friends and families for years. Family was incredibly important to Valerie. It was very rare that you did not find her preparing a meal, planning the next get together, or simply checking in on either immediate or extended family. Family came first and she helped bring up so many children, nieces, nephews, and neighbors throughout her lifetime. She spent her life taking care of and assisting everybody she could. “We are Family” was a song near and dear to her heart.
There will be no service or viewing, but all are welcome to join Valerie’s family at her celebration of life for a time of food and fellowship on Friday, June 11, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Mechanicsburg Club Picnic grounds located at 80 Glendale Drive Mechanicsburg, PA 17050.
