Vera Kay Brechbiel

Vera Kay Brechbiel, age 71, of Mechanicsburg, died at Green Ridge Village on Thursday, November 23, 2023.  Vera was born on Sunday, December 16, 1951 in Mechanicsburg to the late Charles “Charlie” Rollo Brechbiel and Ruth (Leinaweaver) Brechbiel.   In addition to her parents, Vera is preceded in death by her twin brother: Vernon Brechbiel; her nephew: Erich Brechbiel; and her brother-in-law: Eric Kauffman.

Vera’s survivors include her three siblings: Paul Brechbiel of Dillsburg, Lynn Brechbiel of Mechanicsburg, Lois Kauffman of Walkersville, MD; her sister-in-law: Kathy Brechbiel of Mechanicsburg; her five nieces and nephews: Amber King and husband, Michael, of Philadelphia, Kirk Brechbiel and wife, Renee, of Lemoyne, Scott Brechbiel and wife Jillian, of Mechanicsburg, Heather Satterfield and husband Peter, of Smithsburg, MD, Bryce Kauffman of Sharpsburg, MD; and ten great nieces and nephews: Claire King, Caroline King, Rhys Satterfield, Pyran Satterfield, Aynsley Satterfield, Ella Brechbiel, Chase Brechbiel, Jackson Brechbiel, Naomi Brechbiel, and Easton Brechbiel.

Vera graduated from Mechanicsburg Area High School as part of the class of 1969.  She retired from The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in 2016, after 34 years of service working in Foreign Intelligence.  Vera was a member of Silver Spring Presbyterian Church in Mechanicsburg, where she sang in the church choir for many years. She was a nature lover who loved flowers and trees.  One of her favorite pastimes was bird watching.  She loved birds especially Blue Birds.  Vera cherished time spent being around her nieces, and nephews. She will be dearly missed by those fortunate enough to have known her.

All are welcome to join Vera’s family at her Gathering of Family and Friends on Monday, December 4, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until her time of service at 12:15 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.  Vera’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service. Burial will follow the reception in Silver Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.  Cremation was private.
