Cared For Everyone -

Vera G. (Shaull) Fittrer, age 95, of Breinigsville, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021.  She was born the youngest of 12 children on Tuesday, August 4, 1925 in Silver Spring Township to the late George R. and Flora (Vogelsong) Shaull.  She was the loving wife of Robert R. Fittrer, Jr., for 42 years, before his passing in 2000.  In addition to her parents and husband, Vera was predeceased by her son-in-law, Robert Sarmir; and her siblings: Clarence, Grace, Mildred, Maude, Esther, Mabel, Roy, Nellie, Ruth, Della, and Marjorie.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” (Fittrer) Sarmir of Breinigsville, with whom she had resided, and stepson, Robert R. Fittrer, III and his wife, Jermel, of Truckee, CA.  Vera felt extremely blessed to be a grandmother to Amber Hearn (husband Brandon) and great-granddaughter, Marley, and to Britani Wells (husband Scott Boyer) and great-grandson, Arlo.  She was also a step-grandmother to Perry Fittrer (wife Ana) and great-grandson, Emerson, and to Lindsay Cuvo (husband Chad) and their children: Logan and Zoe, and to Amie Gebhardt (husband William).  Vera had many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Vera graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1943.  She worked as an administrative assistant in the Office of the Superintendent of Mechanicsburg High School and for the US Government at NSD/SPCC Mechanicsburg.  Vera was also the administrative secretary at Silver Spring Presbyterian Church for 33 years where she was an active lifelong member, serving as an ordained elder and deacon, singing in the choir, and being an accompanist.  In her retirement, Vera enjoyed being a member of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees, delivering for Meals on Wheels, and serving on the Cumberland County Historical Society.  She spent her entire life being a role model for others by sharing genuine compassion and caring for everyone she encountered.  Her greatest joy was her family and the treasured times she spent with them.  She loved being outdoors, vacationing at the beach, tending to flower gardens, spending time with cherished friends, music, and baking.

Vera's family would like to share their immense gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Lehigh Commons for the loving and excellent care they provided her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Silver Spring Presbyterian Church, 444 Silver Spring Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050.
