Verna Agnes (Darnell) Patton, age 92, died at home on Friday, November 15, 2024. Verna was born on Friday, August 12, 1932, in Malvern to the late Kenneth Herman Darnell and Blanche (Ware) Riggins. In addition to her parents, Verna is preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Darnell, Jr. and her brother-in-law, Robert Walker.
Verna’s survivors include her husband of 72 years, Robert McMasters Patton; her five children: R. Alan Patton of Orwigsburg, Karen Stoner and her husband, Jerry of Mechanicsburg, Sharon Rider and her husband, Gary of Boiling Springs, Craig Patton and his wife, Tracy of Carlisle, Brian Patton and his wife, Jocelyn of Las Vegas, NV; her 13 grandchildren; her 24 great-grandchildren; her sister, Betty Walker of Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.
Verna was born in Malvern, PA and graduated from Tredyffrin/Easttown High School in the class of 1950. She was the 5th in her class and was a drum majorette. She originally worked for the Paoli Bank and then was an at home wife and mother. She then worked in the Mechanicsburg School District as a cafeteria aid, library aid, and secretary to the Guidance Department. She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Mechanicsburg since 1965. Verna will be dearly missed by all those fortunate to have been in her life.
All are welcome to join Verna’s family at her visitation on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. with a service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 8 East Keller Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. The service will be live streamed by the church at https://www.youtube.com/live/W1yq8LtLZlg. Verna’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church immediately following the service. Interment will follow the reception Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.
In lieu of flowers, they invite those wishing to celebrate Verna’s life with a memorial contribution to make them to New Hope Ministries, 5228 E. Trindle Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050 , https://nhmpa.kindful.com/, where Verna had worked as a former volunteer.
