Vicki Eleanor (Wickard) Lenker
Vicki Eleanor (Wickard) Lenker, age 74, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully with her son, David, by her side on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. Vicki was born on Thursday, July 25, 1946, in Mechanicsburg to the late James L. Wickard and Laura Mae (Brenneman) Wickard. In addition to her parents, Vicki is preceded in death by her seven siblings: Walter “Wick” Lynn Wickard, James. L. Wickard, Jr., Loyle Heisey, Paul Jacob Wickard, Edgar Wickard, Anna Etta Yohe, and Clyde Wickard.
Vicki’s survivors include her two children: David R. Lenker, II of Mechanicsburg, Diann Carol Lenker of Pittsburgh; her former spouse, David R. Lenker of Lisburn; and many nieces and nephews.
Vicki graduated from Cumberland Valley High School as part of the class of 1964. She retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, after nearly 20 years of service working as a clerk typist. Vicki began her career with the Department of Corrections at SCI Camp Hill before she was transferred to the State Police. She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church in New Kingstown. Vicki was also member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved learning about history of the Civil War, especially the Gettysburg Battlefield. Vicki also enjoyed watching Westerns, doing various crafts, and cooking. She further felt much appreciation for farms and what she learned from growing up on one; Vicki delighted in talking about her childhood memories
All are welcome to join Vicki’s family at her in-person viewing and gathering of family of friends on Monday, March 15, 2021, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, and her virtual gathering beginning at 12:30 p.m. until time of virtual service; with Reverend Eric L. Funk officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in Letort Cemetery in Carlisle. Honored to be pallbearers are: David R. Lenker, II, David R. Lenker, Harold Heisey, Lynn Brenneman, Harold Deardorff, Jr., and Brian Steigleman.
The family wants to thank the following emergency service agencies: Silver Spring Ambulance & Rescue Association, Silver Spring Community Fire Company, Silver Spring Township Police Department, & the staff at UPMC Pinnacle West Shore Hospital. They also send their most heartfelt thanks to Homeland Hospice, especially Sherry Lehman, Missy McCreary, Alyshia Hardy, Helen Haddick, and Robin Zampelli, all of whom so lovingly cared for Vicki during her illness.
While Vicki’s family will not be accepting flowers, they invite those wishing to celebrate her life with a memorial contribution to make them to Silver Spring Ambulance & Rescue Association, 12 Eleanor Drive, P.O. Box 177, New Kingstown, PA 17072, or to Silver Spring Community Fire Co., 6471 Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050, or to Trinity United Methodist Church - “HVAC Capital Improvement”, P.O. Box 26, New Kingstown, PA 17072.
