Vida Mae (Hoffman) Childers

In Loving Memory -

Vida Mae Childers, 108 years old, of Mechanicsburg, was called home to be with her Lord and Saviour at 8:15 a.m. on July 28, 2015. She was born on December 20, 1906 in Churchtown, PA, the daughter of Charles and Nellie (Shearer) Hoffman Bigler of Carlisle, PA. In addition to her parents, Vida was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Childers, on November 29, 1976; her brother, Harold E. Hoffman and his wife, Evelyn M. (Ocker) Hoffman, of Carlisle, PA; her sister, Gladys V. Hoffman and her husband, Ken DeWalt, of Phoenix, AZ.

Vida is survived by her nieces, Shirley A. Heller and her husband, Dr. Dale E. Heller, of McVeytown, PA, Joan M. (Hoffman) Bradshaw of Franklinville, NJ, Janice (DeWalt) Rassmussen and her husband, Earl, of Surprise, AZ; her nephew, Harold E. Hoffman II and his wife, Goldie E. (Lupfer) Hoffman, of Selah, WA; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Vida and her husband, Jimmy, retired in 1972 after serving the Mechanicsburg community for over 41 years by operating two separate stores along Main Street known as “Childers Photo Service,” and later, a photo retail store by the same name. She was a member of the Mechanicsburg First Church of God since 1931 where she was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She taught Sunday school second graders and Bible School for 52 years.  Vida will be remembered by her family as a very loving, caring, and giving person.

All are welcome to join Vida’s family at her viewing on Monday, August 3, 2015, from 2:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:30 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Bradley V. Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.
