Viola Mae (Slaseman) Taylor
A Farmer’s Wife
Viola Mae (Slaseman) Taylor, 94, of Newberrytown died at home and surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 1, 2012. She was born in Newberrytown on Thursday, January 24, 1918, daughter of the late William Slaseman and Martha (Grist) Slaseman. Viola was the widow of Oscar John Taylor to whom she was married for over 75 years.
Viola was a true farmer’s wife. She loved to cook on her old wood stove. She spent many hours gardening her flowers and vegetables. Viola’s family would make many requests for her special chocolate pudding better known to them as “Pap”. She never missed her game shows on television and enjoyed her word finds. Viola had a heart for animals and always took time to care for her “barn cats”.
Viola’s survivors include her daughter Fay Roden of Millerstown; two sisters Linda Stone of New Cumberland, Martha Cassel of Zionsview; 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding Viola in death are a son Junior Oscar Taylor and a granddaughter Cindy Puterio.
All are welcome to join Viola’s family at her viewing on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 and on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, from 9:00 until time of service at 10:00 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, 17055, with Pastor David Yost officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Emanuel Cemetery in Lewisberry.
