Violet Rose (Bender) Rhoads, 90, of Mechanicsburg , died at Golden Living on Friday, November 22, 2013. She was born in Mechanicsburg, on Saturday, February 24, 1923, daughter of the late Henry T. Bender and Zora E. (Hershman) Bender. Violet was the widow of Ray G. Rhoads whom she married on June 25, 1950 and who died on April 11, 1999.
Violet’s survivors include her loving children, John R. Rhoads and his wife Tove of Lemoyne, Lou Ann Myers of Camp Hill, Diana R. Davis and her husband Richard of Mechanicsburg; grandchildren, Gregory A. Myers Jr., Zachery Rhoads, Aunna M. Rhoads; great-granddaughter, Haven L. Myers, a brother, Robert Bender and his wife Freda of Mechanicsburg; and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding Violet in death are siblings, Virginia Bender, Evelyn Bender, Harold Bender, and Charles Bender.
Violet was a lifelong member of First Church of God in Mechanicsburg. She was a member of the Lawnton American Legion Post # 998 Ladies Auxiliary; She enjoyed playing bingo, board games and cards with her family. Violet was an artistic woman who loved to draw. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and a deeply devoted wife. Family was very important to Violet.
All are welcome to join Violet’s family at viewing on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, from 9:30 until time of service at 10:30 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Pastor Bob Malick officiating. Burial will follow in Trindle Spring Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.
