Violet “Vi” Pearl (Ludwig) Potteiger
Real Love for her Family -
Violet “Vi” Pearl (Ludwig) Potteiger, age 94, of Carlisle, went home with her family by her side on Monday, August 12, 2019. Vi was born on Sunday, April 12, 1925 in Mechanicsburg to the late Jacob Neff Musser Ludwig and Myrtle May (Brewbaker) Ludwig. Vi was the widow of Merritt Leroy Potteiger, Jr., whom she married on November 29, 1942, and who died on February 27, 2005. In addition to her parents and husband, Vi is preceded in death by her two brothers: Merle “Spark” Ludwig, Sr., Neff Leroy Ludwig; and her two sisters: Hilda “Peep” Mary Westhafer, Bernice Isabel Ludwig.
Vi’s survivors include her three children: Joan Homovich and her husband, Jim, of Carlisle, Kenneth “Ken” Potteiger and his wife, Dolly, of Carlisle, Ronald “Ron” Potteiger, Sr. and his wife, Georgia, of Carlisle; her nine grandchildren: Jodi Black and her husband, Kevin, and their two children: Jeremy and Savannah, Jeff Homovich and his wife, Nicole, and their two sons: Cody and Cole, Jan Heiges and her two children: Blake and Ridge, Tina Albert and her husband, Perry, and their twin girls: Madisyn and Paityn, Chad Potteiger, Dustin Potteiger and his two children: Kylissa and Mason, Ronald Potteiger, Jr. and his wife, Missy, and their daughter, Hope, Kim Potteiger and her two sons: Josh and Carson, Nikki DiPietro and her three children: Shane, Alyssa, and Brianna; her great great-grandson, Levi Stansfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Vi retired from Cumberland Valley School District in Mechanicsburg, after 25 years of service working in the cafeteria and 24 years driving school bus and van. She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in New Kingstown. Vi loved to paint, work in her garden, and can fruits and vegetables. She also enjoyed helping on the farm. Vi loved to meet her friends and go for breakfast, which she did many times a week. She was the type of person who was always there when someone needed something, no matter what it was. Vi had a real love for her family and they truly were her greatest joy in life.
All are welcome to join Vi’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Monday, August 19, 2019, from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Eric L. Funk officiating. Vi’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Trinity United Methodist Church, 4 West Main Street, New Kingstown, PA 17072, immediately following the service. Burial in Longsdorf Cemetery in Mechanicsburg will be private and at the convenience of the family.
