Virginia “Ginnie” Romaine (Brewbaker) Swartz

Feisty & Tenacious -

Virginia “Ginnie” Romaine (Brewbaker) Swartz, age 90, of Mechanicsburg , died comfortably at home on Thursday, July 10, 2014.  Ginnie was born on Sunday, June 29, 1924 in Mechanicsburg to the late Charles Raymond Brewbaker and Helen Romaine (Henry) Brewbaker.  Ginnie was the widow of Edgar F. Swartz, whom she married on November 16, 1941, and who died on November 10, 1987.  In addition to her parents and husband, Ginnie is preceded in death by her six-year-old daughter, Kimberly Jo Swartz; and her sisters, Janet D. Findley and Helen J. Pines.

Ginnie’s survivors include her daughter, Yvonne Ann Souder and her husband, Fred, of Carlisle;  her grandchildren:  Jeff Souder of Enola, Lorissa “Lori” Winemiller and her husband, Bob, and their two children, Jacob Winemiller and Brynn Winemiller, all of York; her sister, Geraldine Eyler, of Camp Hill; and several special nieces and nephews.

Ginnie was feisty and tenacious and was known to hold out until she got her way.  She had an unwavering love and affection for her dogs, and she considered them her “kids” because they were as important to her as her family.  Yodeling, country music, and playing cards were fun pastimes for Ginnie.  She enjoyed telling her stories, especially about being one of the first female Cumberland Valley bus drivers, how she lost her boots in the Shaull Elementary School fire, and milking the cows on her family’s dairy farm in Mechanicsburg.

All are welcome to join Ginnie’s family at her viewing on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 with Celebrant George Spangler officiating.  Burial in Trindle Spring Cemetery in Mechanicsburg will immediately follow the service.  Honored to be pallbearers are:  Jeff Souder, Robert Winemiller, Scott Musser, Scott Musser, Jr., Charles “Bobby” Findley, and Ronald “Tink” Findley.  Ginnie’s family invites everyone to join them, following the burial, for a time of food and fellowship at Hampden Township Good Hope Station Community Room , 1200 Good Hope Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050 .

To honor Ginnie’s deep love of dogs, the family suggests memorial contributions to a dog shelter of the donor’s choosing.

Ginnie’s family has entrusted her care to Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.  Read Ginnie’s full obituary, view her memorial video and portrait, and sign her official guest book at www.Myers-Buhrig.com .
