Wanda Jean (Myers) Herron

Beloved and Loving Wife, Mother and Friend -

Wanda Jean (Myers) Herron, 56, of Mechanicsburg , started her heavenly birthday peacefully and with her loving family by her side on Wednesday, February 18, 2015.  Wanda was born on Sunday, July 6, 1958, in Hanover to the late Ralph Prescott Myers and Anna Mae (Krout) Myers.

W anda’s survivors include her loving husband of 23 years, Michael “Mike” O Herron; her beloved sons: Clayton “Clay” Michael Herron, Jacob “Jake” Myers Herron, both of Mechanicsburg; her siblings:  Ruthanna Mae (Myers) Miller, Ralph E. Myers, Charlotte L. (Myers) Stair, William C. Myers, Ronald L. Myers; and several nieces and nephews.

Wanda graduated in 1976 from Bermudian Springs High School , where she was a cheerleader and played field hockey.  She retired in 2008 after thirty years of service from Navy Fleet Material Support Office in Mechanicsburg, where she served as a computer specialist.  In her “retirement” Wanda continued to work in home sales positions with Longaberger Baskets , Creative Memories , and Thirty-One Gifts .  She deeply enjoyed a part-time position with Colleen and Co.

Wanda was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Shiremanstown, for 23 years.  She loved photography, and Wanda channeled her creative side and overwhelming love for her family through scrapbooking over 60 large volumes of family events.  Wanda’s wish, “All I want to be is a good mom,” shined through her unbelievable involvement in her son’s activities.  She was a former Vice President of HMMS Travel Soccer Club and a former President of the Cumberland Valley Soccer Boosters and was a dedicated fan at University of Maryland Club Soccer and LVC Men’s Soccer games where Clay and Jake played.  Wanda put her children before everyone and everything.  Through her energetic spirit, her superior organizational skills, her faithful presence, and her “family first” attitude, Wanda’s dedication, passion, and ability to laugh in challenging times served as a role model in leadership for many people who knew her. In the eyes of her family her memory will remain:  “Just Amazing”.

All are welcome to join Wanda’s family at her gathering of family and friends and visitation on Friday, February 27, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; and at Wanda’s funeral service on Saturday, February 28, 2015, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church , 44 West Main Street, Shiremanstown, PA 17011; with Pastor Michael L. Seifried and Pastor Sarah M. Keilholtz officiating.  The family will individually receive friends on Friday but not on Saturday.  The burial in St. John’s Cemetery in Mechanicsburg along with the reception afterwards will be by private invitation.  Honored to be pallbearers are:  Eric Elgin, Nick Zambetti, Dylan Myers, Danny Myers, Logan Lonczynski, and Michael Myers.

A special message from Mike:

“Wanda’s life strength and spirit were apparent to anyone she met and she will be deeply missed in this physical world. Thanks to everyone for their prayers; they have worked. Her spirit was at peace and full of faith and grace as she completed her earthly journey; serving as a spiritual inspiration to family, friends, the medical community and hospice.  God bless her.

I know at these times of heavenly birthdays, people wish to do something for us to express their love.  We already have plenty of flowers, and are well taken care of for food, and aren’t in need of any physical things; but appreciate your cards and shared memories.  If you feel like you would like to get a gift for Wanda on her new birthday, below are a few suggestions:

If you wish to give a gift to help those of us left in this physical world:

Wanda had been battling non-smoking lung cancer since October 2013 and always wanted people to know that she had never smoked and had gotten the cancer just like you can get it anywhere else in your body. Here is an article about this devastating disease:

http://www.standup2cancer.org/article_archive/view/lung_cancer_coming_soon_to_a_non_smoker_near_you

The article points to this worthy organization where you can send donations to help with the education, screening, treatment and support of lung cancer that does so much more than say “just stop smoking.”  Lung cancer, if caught early, can be treated very successfully. Wanda had the kind that had no real symptoms until it was too late for effective long term treatments. http://www.LungCancerAlliance.org

If you wish to give a gift related to the faith and strength that sustains us all spiritually, please give an extra contribution to your personal religious affiliation.  The spiritual part of Wanda’s journey was just amazing and will give us all strength to cope with her physical loss.”

The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to everyone who reached out to them during Wanda’s struggle with cancer and to those who so lovingly cared for her during her illness.

Wanda’s family has entrusted her care to Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.  Read Wanda’s full obituary, view her memorial video and portrait, and sign her official guest book at www.Myers-Buhrig.com .
