Wava Lucille (Simmons) Smith, age 89, of Mechanicsburg , died at West Shore Hospital on Friday, October 10, 2014. Wava was born on Friday, December 26, 1924 in Mechanicsburg to the late Reno Simmons and Nora (Reynolds) Simmons. Wava was the widow of Alvin Raymond Smith whom she married on May 5, 1953.
Wava’s survivors include her children, Claudia A. Taylor of Mechanicsburg and Gregory H. Smith of Mechanicsburg.
Wava graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1943. She retired from the Navy Supply Depot in Mechanicsburg. Wava was a member of First Church of God in Mechanicsburg. She was a registered nurse at Seidle Memorial Hospital in Mechanicsburg and helped deliver many babies in her years there. Wava also worked for the former Hills Department Store in Camp Hill and as a nurse at Country Meadows in Mechanicsburg. She and her husband, Alvin, were state-approved foster parents and helped care for several foster children. Wava loved helping people and was a very generous and caring woman.
All are welcome to join Wava’s family at her Gathering of Family & Friends on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating. Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery .
