Wilbert “Bill” Emanuel Stremmel

A Distinguished Gentleman -

Wilbert “Bill” Emanuel Stremmel, 91, of Mechanicsburg died Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the Masonic Village Health Center, Elizabethtown.  He was born on Tuesday, March 30 1920, in Hanover the son of the late Harvey and Mabel Fuhrman Stremmel. Bill was the widower of Kathryn Stremmel to whom he was married for 57 years.

Bill graduated from Hanover High School.  He retired from the Patriot News after 28 years of service working as circulation and promotions manager. Bill was known as a “Distinguished Gentleman” and was one of 14 children.  He was a US Army WW II Veteran, who served in Central Europe, Normandy and Northern France. Bill was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal.  He was a member of West Shore Lodge #681 F & AM, Zembo Shriners, and Harrisburg Consistory. He loved to travel, camp and was the Master of Travel-NTC with the Masonic Campers Club as well as the Susquehanna Valley Campers.

Bill’s survivors include his three sons W. Randy Stremmel and wife Shirley of Camp Hill; Richard S. Stremmel and wife Debbie of Millersville; Robert S. Stremmel and wife Dianne of Harrisburg; five grandchildren: Cristin Haley, Stephanie Ruth, Kevin Stremmel, Andrew Wagenheim, Ashley Maguire; 8 great-grandchildren; a brother: Levere Stremmel of Carlisle; and several nieces and nephews.  Among those preceeding him in death are 12 brothers and sisters.

All are welcome to join Bill’s family at his viewing  on Tuesday October 25 2011, from 6:30 to 8:00 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055, (717) 766-3421, www.Myers-Buhrig.com with a Masonic Service to be held at 7:00 conducted by the West Shore Lodge #681 F & AM.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday October 26, 2011 at Myers-Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory with Reverend Dr. Charles Hostetter officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Camp Hill where military honors will be presented by Cumberland County Honor Guard.  Honored to be pallbearers are: Russ Haley, Jeff Ruth, Kevin Stremmel, Andy Wagenheim, Shawn McGuire and Christian Stremmel.
