Willard Allen Schlegel
Loving Husband, Father, & Friend –
Willard Allen Schlegel, age 93, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Valley View, PA, passed away at Brookdale at Grandon Farms on Friday, March 6, 2020. Willard was born on Monday, August 23, 1926 in Valley View to the late Luma Faye (Straub) Dunkle and William Schlegel. In addition to his parents, Willard is preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Ann Johnston, his grandson, Jamie Chriscoe, and his sister, Jean Schlegel.
Willard’s survivors include his wife of 73 years, Emma Isabelle (Hubler) Schlegel; his children: Debra Shearer and her significant other Steve Thomas, of Lake City, FL, Monica Chriscoe and her husband Sam, of Lexington, NC, William “Bill” Schlegel of Plano, TX; his four grandchildren: Melanie Peters, Sally Simmons, Tyler Miller, Michele Turpin; his nine great-grandchildren; his one brother: James Schlegel and his significant other Susan Fabbre of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Willard served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He retired from career-long employment at AMP, Inc. Willard was a passionate big game hunter and especially enjoyed hunting fast-running animals. He also enjoyed skeet shooting and proudly made his own ammunition. Willard was a loving, husband, father, and friend who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
All are welcome to join Willard’s family at his viewing on Thursday, March 12, 2020, from 1:30 p.m. until time of funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend William Chamberlin officiating. Friends and family are invited for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory), immediately following the service. Honored to be pallbearers are: William Schlegel, Tyler Miller, Michele Turpin, Sally Simmons, Sam Chriscoe, and Debra Shearer. Cremation will be private.
