Willard “Bill” Foster Cassel Jr
He Could Fix Anything
-
Willard “Bill” Foster Cassel Jr., 81, of Mechanicsburg died Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Holy Spirit Hospital. He was born on Monday, March 17, 1930 in Mechanicsburg, the son of the late Willard F. and Kathryn E. (Baker) Cassel. He married his sweetheart of over 60 years, Arlene Miller Cassel, on June 3, 1951 and lost her in an automobile accident on Tuesday, May 10, 2011.
Bill graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1948. He retired from AMP in Harrisburg as a manufacturing engineer after 38 years of service. He could fix anything and he jumped at the chance to help his children with projects around their houses. Bill enjoyed gardening and, in his later years, called his Rototiller his “power walker”. He was a loving, caring and forgiving man who was, “Very easy to like and love.”
Food and eating were some of Bill’s greatest joys in life and he craved ice cream with a passion. In the grocery store ice cream aisle he was a “wide-eyed kid in a candy store”. He was a masterful story teller who loved to enchant his audiences. Helping his children’s Girl and Boy Scout Troops brought him much happiness. His grandchildren were all STARS in his eyes and heart. Despite his many medical issues he always persevered.
Bill is survived by his loving children and grandchildren; three sons, one daughter and six grandchildren: Timothy Cassel of Arlington MA, David Cassel and his wife Dianne of Camp Hill and his four children: Lauren, Kristen, Katelyn & Courtney; Lisa Sanna and her husband Joseph Jr of Enola and their two children: Marissa & Nicole; Matthew Cassel of Mechanicsburg; one brother: Donald Cassel of Mechanicsburg; two sisters: Virginia Calabrese of Mechanicsburg; Joan Pepper of Carlisle and several nieces and nephews.
